On July 24, the Generalitat de Catalunya has announced plans to use blockchain technology in its public administration activities in the official press release. Catalonia’s Department of Digital Policies will develop a final plan by the end of December 2018. The aim of the project is finding out blockchain’s areas of maximum potential and economic value.
Spain has already implemented the blockchain technology in a lot of spheres. In May, Barcelona Tech City had announced the establishment of a specialized space for blockchain technology integration, and Spain-headquartered bank Santander was the first global company to use blockchain for investor voting.
As previously reported, earlier this month, 133 deputies from the Spain’s Popular Party submitted a proposal related to blockchain to the Congress of Deputies. They suggested to use the technology in governance. However, no particular plans or a timeline were defined.
