Security expert and Tactical Tech director Matt Mitchell warned crypto-enthusiasts that their love of bitcoin symbols may potentially be turned against them when they are asked to undergo an additional safety check at the airport or other public places.
“Conferences, borders, airports, crowded places -t here stickers can entail closer scrutiny for participation in opposition organizations, industrial espionage, or attract the attention of investigative bodies,” said Mitchell in a conversation with Motherboard .
The story that occurred with bitcoin enthusiasts, Davi Barker in 2014, can confirm this belief. Barker was wearing a sweatshirt with Bitcoin Not Bombs written on it. This allegedly attracted the attention of security services at the US airport: they conducted an additional thorough inspection of all his belongings, and then demanded that he “get bitcoins out of the bag”.
