The Internet community has discovered a new cryptographic virus called Ryuk, which demands an impressive ransom in bitcoins from its victims. There were several companies around the world under attack, according to researchers from Check Point.

It is reported that hundreds of personal computers, servers and storage in data centers have already been encrypted. The amount of ransom varies from 15 to 50 BTC (from $ 96,000 to $ 320,000 at today’s rate of the first crypto currency).

Several companies have already agreed to the required sum, as a result of which hackers received bitcoins worth more than $ 640,000.

It is noteworthy that the attackers did not spread the virus with the help of large-scale spam-companies, using more focused strikes instead. They manually enter the network of the desired organization, collect detailed data and only then activate the encryptor.
