According to Coindesk, David Marcus is leaving the board of directors at crypto exchange Coinbase, citing his new assignment at Facebook leading the social network’s blockchain strategy.

Marcus, who joined the exchange’s board in December 2017 and took on a blockchain research group at Facebook in May, said he wants to avoid the conflict of interest. The decision comes as rumors continue to spread about a potential purchase of Coinbase by Facebook. Last month, the social network allowed the exchange to advertise its services, lifting a ban which took effect in January.

Facebook has not yet made any comments on the subject.
